Orchestra of Exiles

Wednesday, January 4, 2023 11 Tevet 5783

11:00 AM - 1:30 PMTemple Beth El

Rabbi Beth Nichols will begin our program with a discussion on German Village Jews in the 1930s.  Prior to the rise of the Nazis, many German Jews felt strong nationalistic ties to Germany, and were integrated into their communities. Using one historian's personal memories of this time, we will explore the dramatic changes that German Jews experienced through the 1930s and how it caused them to wrestle with their identities.

Come in from the cold for lunch!  A baked potato bar with all the "fixins", vegetarian and meat chili, green salad, fruit salad, and assorted cake slices will be served.  Registration for lunch is required.  The cost for lunch is $11 for TBE members and $14 for non-members.

We will view the film "Orchestra of Exiles" that tells the story of a violist who saved lives, fought Nazis, and went on the create the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra.  SPICE member Allan Margolies will give commentary on the film.
