The mission of SPICE is to enhance the quality of life of affiliated and non-affiliated Jewish seniors by providing religious, cultural, educational, or social programs of interest and concern.

Join us for a clergy-led program from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Lunch is at noon followed by a guest speaker presentation from 12:45 pm to 1:45 pm. We look forward to your attendance, enjoyment, and participation!


11:00 am - Cantor Mary Rebecca Thomas - "Ideas of Independence in Jewish Life, History, and Culture"

12:00 pm - Lunch - Corned beef and pastrami, deli breads and sides, and New York-style desserts

12:45 pm - "North Carolinian Characters who Helped Start the Revolution"  - Scott Syfert, eminent corporate attorney and co-founder of the May 20th Society, dedicated to commemorating the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, will talk about "MecDec, the first Declaration of Independence?". While researching his first book, The First American Declaration of Independence? The Disputed History of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence of May 20, 1775,  Syfert ran across a number of interesting characters in Charlotte' shistory whose stories were largely lost to history. Fascinating and entertaining!
