Sunday, June 1, 2025 5 Sivan 5785

6:00 PM - 9:00 PMTemple Beth El

Shavuot invites us to return to Sinai—standing together in community as we celebrate the giving of Torah and the sacred tradition of learning through the night. Join us for an evening of study, creativity, and reflection as we help shape a powerful Shavuot service led by and for our congregation. At 7:30pm, we’ll gather for our service, including Yizkor and followed by a festive Oneg.

Register by Tuesday, May 27 to join for dinner and a workshop.*

Note: This will be our only Yizkor opportunity for Shavuot. There will be no Morning Festival Service.

Schedule:
6:00pm | Congregational Shavuot Dinner
6:30pm | Clergy-Led Creative Workshops
7:30pm | Shavuot Evening Service with Yizkor

Workshop Options:
Sharing Our Personal Torah with Rabbi Asher Knight
On Shavuot, we remember that the Torah was not only given at Sinai — it is also received, again and again, in every generation and every heart. Each of us carries a unique piece of Torah: a story, a question, a lesson hard-won, or a truth we’ve come to live by.

Join Rabbi Knight in sharing a piece of your personal Torah — something that reflects your lived wisdom, your spiritual wrestling, or the values that guide your life. You don’t need to be a scholar to share Torah. You only need to be willing to name what matters most, and to offer it as a gift to others who are listening for meaning.

Music as Midrash: Unpacking Ahavat Olam with Cantor Danielle Rodnizki
Have you ever wondered why there are so many different melodies for your favorite prayer?! Join Cantor Rodnizki to explore why having access to a plethora of musical settings can help bring out a meaningful variety of expressions and interpretations of our prayers. On Shavuot, when we commemorate receiving Torah on Mt. Sinai, we will focus our learning on Ahavat Olam, a prayer from the evening service that highlights God’s love through the gift of Torah. Participants will explore the prayer in depth and create an iyyun (prayer introduction) to share during our service.

The Sights and Sounds of Sinai: Representing Revelation with Rabbi Beth Nichols
The Torah’s depiction of the revelation at Mt. Sinai describes an overwhelming scene that overwhelmed the senses of the Israelites.  Trembling, they told Moses that it was too much for them, and asked Moses to act as an intermediary.

After deriving inspiration from textual sources, join Rabbi Nichols in creating artistic representations of the Israelites’ experience at Sinai. We will use a variety of materials to craft pieces that explore the emotions of this holy moment.

Melodies of Memory: A Grief Playlist with Rabbi Lexi Erdheim
Join Rabbi Erdheim for a heartfelt and healing experience as we explore the power of music in navigating grief and honoring the memory of our loved ones. Music can express what words cannot, offering a sacred space for remembrance and reflection. In this interactive workshop, participants will create personal grief playlists—collections of songs that remind them of those they’ve lost, bring comfort in difficult moments, stir bittersweet emotions or inspire reflection on the meaning of a life. Participants will be invited to share songs or lyrics from their playlists during the Yizkor portion of our Shavuot service, weaving our individual memories into a communal tapestry of love, loss, and legacy.
