The Foundation of Shalom Park, in partnership with multiple Shalom Park agencies, is pleased to update the community on the progress made to date towards creating a senior living community at Shalom Park.
For the past two years we have been working closely with Aldersgate Life Plan Services on a plan that will utilize land currently owned by Temple Israel and the Foundation of Shalom Park to create a Jewish senior living project. Aldersgate is a highly successful not-for-profit senior living operator based in Charlotte since the late 1940's. The working group for this project has included representation from the Foundation of Shalom Park, Temple Israel, Temple Beth El, The Levine JCC, the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, and Jewish Family Services. Our objectives and values around this project are aligned, and recognize the tremendous potential for a Jewish senior living community to enhance Jewish life in Charlotte, and to strengthen the role of Shalom Park within our community.
The work done over the past two years, including surveys, market research and detailed financial modeling validates the viability of the project. Earlier this year we reached an important milestone by entering into a Letter of Intent with Aldersgate which laid out a governance model for the project, which we believe will assure that the community maintains a strong Jewish character and connectivity to the agencies and activities on Shalom Park. Next steps include engaging with the city of Charlotte for land zoning changes required to move the project forward. This next stage includes filing project information with the city, with an anticipated public community information session by the end of March. Given that these steps will make our project part of the city's public records, we wanted to share the good news with our community first!
We invite you to join us for an Informational Meeting to learn more about the project, its timeline, and its impact on our community, on March 25th at 6:30 pm in the Sam Lerner Center for Cultural Arts. We look forward to sharing more details with you at that time.
Shalom,
