Elul is a month dedicated to self-reflection in preparation for the High Holy Days. Join Rabbi Erdheim either in person or on Zoom to meet for four consecutive Wednesdays to discuss On Repentance and Repair by Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg.
Rabbi Ruttenberg’s work offers a fresh perspective on atonement, forgiveness, and healing, grounded in Maimonides' philosophy. Contrasting with American culture's focus on redemption and letting go of grudges, Rabbi Ruttenberg emphasizes the importance of the perpetrator's obligation to repair harm. The book presents Maimonides' 5-step approach to repentance, applying it to personal relationships and broader societal issues such as systemic racism, sexual violence, and Native American land rights. Accessible to all backgrounds, On Repentance and Repair appeals to anyone seeking a more wholesome culture and personal accountability for their mistakes and will serve as a meaningful resource to guide us as we engage in the work of teshuvah or repentance.
You can purchase On Repentance and Repair from the TBE gift shop for $21.00, which is cheaper than Amazon and you can support our religious school! Registration is required but you do not have to be able to attend all sessions to participate.
