Questions of Faith Taught by Rabbi Knight

Saturday, November 17, 2018 9 Kislev 5779

9:00 AM - 10:15 AMTemple Beth El

Progressive faith requires us to consider questions that challenge us. We live in an age of radical polarization, rising religious fundamentalism, and passionate atheism. Join Rabbi Knight once a month on Shabbat morning, as we explore Jewish tradition and contemporary thought on questions raised by the meeting of faith, reason, history, and our lived modern experience. Each session will be followed by brunch and Congregational Shabbat Service.

The sessions begin at 9:00 am and end by 10:15 am in time for participants to enjoy Congregational Brunch.  We welcome first-time and long-time learners.  All texts and materials are provided.  The 2018-19 topics are as follows:.

Saturday, 11/17/18 - Question of History:  Where is God in the workings of the world?

Saturday, 12/8/18 - Question of Conviction:  Do I have to believe in God to be a good Jew?

Saturday, 2/23/19 - Question of Theodicy:  Why does God allow for suffering?

Saturday, 3/9/19 - Question of Faith and Questioning:  What if I am ambivalent?

Saturday, 4/13/19 - Question of Responsibility:  For whom are we responsible?

Saturday, 5/11/19 - Question of Practice:  What does it mean to live with our faith?
